Relapse prevention & booster sessions
When therapy has been successful and the client and therapist feel confident that the process is coming to an end, it is important to integrate ‘relapse prevention’ work into the final sessions. This work aims to predict any future problems, what might act as personal triggers or stressors, how to spot signs of danger and what tactics to use to prevent things getting worse again.
This aims to give you the best chance of managing problems as they arise with a clear approach to follow if things become tough again. This approach helps enable you to cope with stress independently and confidently, rather than having to rely on therapy as long-term support.
Of course, if things become too difficult or overwhelming then booster sessions can be arranged which support you in using the tactics that worked previously and adapting them if necessary to new challenges.
